The theme of the conference which will take place in Lodz is Archives of/for Tomorrow. It will focuse on the issues related to data archiving and archiving prospects in the modern audiovisual culture. The range of issues includes digitization of cultural artifacts, social archiving, Film Studies in the times of „archive fever”.
The conference will be held over the period of 4 days. The first day is going to be dedicated to the Graduate Workshop, followed by 3 days of the conference itself. Next 3 days are the conference itself. We predict that selected sections will receive special patronage from associations specializing in relevant theme. The patron of the panel will provide a strong guarntee of the quality of the presentation and will serve as additional indication for recipients of the precise character of speeches.
As part of the conference there will be lectures given by invited authorities. Instead of traditional lectures, meetings with guests will take the form of panel discussions. After a 15-minute introduction given by the guest speaker an 45-minute discussion led by moderator will follow. Invited guests are: Laura Mulvey, Oliver Grau and Giovanna Fossati.
The conference will also include workshop organized by research groups operating within NECS and an annual general meeting of the members of the Association.
Traditionally, an important part of the conference will be „Publishers Area”. This event allows to familiarize oneself with offers of the world's leading cinematographic and media studies publishers and to purchase books and periodicals at promotional prices directly from them.
Presenting work in progress and new publications (monographies, book series, magazines, special publications) will be possible thanks to Pitching Forum. It will also provide a space to familiarize the audience with interesting initiatives in the field of humanities and ongoing research projects.
The programe of the events accompanying the conference will be created in colaboration with partners: Cinematography Museum in Lodz, Educational Film Studio in Lodz – WFOiPE, National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre in Lodz – PWSFTviT and the National Film Archive.
